12 teachers from different educational institutions across the country honoured at a Grand National event
IPDC Finance Limited, the first private sector financial institution of Bangladesh established in 1981 and Prothom Alo, the highest circulated and most read newspaper in Bangladesh, have recently honoured the most important key contributors of our nation building i.e. primary and secondary school level teachers.
12 teachers were honoured at a Grand National level event held in Hotel Intercontinental Dhaka's Ruposhi Bangla Grand Ballroom on October 4th, under the joint initiative of the two organizations titled ‘IPDC-Prothom Alo Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona’. The initiative aims to further strengthen their position and honour in society in recognition of their impactful contributions to society as a change maker.
The nation's top 12 teachers have received 'IPDC-Prothom-alo Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona Award', of which one has been given lifetime honour. Jagdish Chandra Ghosh, a former teacher of Faridpur High School who is also known as 'Tarapad Sir' received lifetime honour award. He joined the Hitoishi School in Faridpur in the 1953, but in 1959, he started teaching at Faridpur High School and continued his long days of teaching here. He also received the honor of journalist Gautam Das in 2015.
Tarapada Das of Jessore has been awarded the honour after 43 years of teaching experience. He taught at Jessore's Shommiloni Institution.
Nashima Akhter, head teacher of a well-known government girl's high school in Mymensingh, has been chosen to receive the honour for addressing her students as ‘Maa’. She received the honour of the best teacher at departmental level in 2016 and at a national level in 2017 and 2018.
Nirupa Dewan, the former head teacher of Rangamati Government High School, has been selected to receive the honour after 35 years of service as a teacher.
Ransinghpur Government Primary School in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh, is famous for girl footballers all over the country. Mofiz Uddin, the head teacher and the craftsman of female footballers of that school has also received the honour.
The humble man of Satkhira and former teacher of 30 number government primary school known as Six Sir, Abdus Salam has received the honour as well.
Abul Hashem Mia, even with hearing impairments have dedicated his life to teaching at the Auliabad Mazar Dakhil Madrasa of Tangail. He has received the Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona honour as a recognition of his dedication.
Chittagong's popular teacher Lutfunnisa Khanam is a government teacher at Jamalkhan Kusumkumari City Corporation Girls' High School. She also became a beloved teacher during her 15-years long teaching career and received the honour.
Head teacher of Karapara Sarat Chandra Secondary School in Bagerhat, Asadul Kabir; Former head teacher of Brahmanbaria Fatehpur KG Multipurpose High School, Shahjahan Kabir and former head teacher of Chittagong's Agrabad Government Colony High School, Shafiq Ullah are also recipients of the honour.
Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman, National Professor; Professor Dr Parveen Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, Central Women's University (CWU); Mominul Islam, Managing Director and CEO of IPDC Finance Limited and Matiur Rahman, Editor of Daily Prothom Alo attended the event & shared their memories with their favorite teacher.
Serving and retired teachers from primary and secondary schools who are at least in their 40s were initially nominated by their students and based on the primary nomination, top 20 teachers were selected through a multi-level jury process. Top 12 nominations were honoured during the Grand National level event. To nominate their favorite teacher current and ex-students filled out an online form, describing the teacher.
