IPDC Finance Limited and The Daily Prothom Alo jointly organized the second edition of Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona to recognize the extra-ordinary contribution of teachers from school level across the country. Nine teachers have been honoured as ‘Priyo Shikkhok’ in ‘IPDC-Prothom Alo Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona 2020’. The award giving event was held on February 27, 2021. During the event, teachers were awarded with crest, honorarium and uttoriyo.
Eminent personalities such as Mominul Islam, Managing Director & CEO of IPDC Finance; Motiur Rahman, Editor of Prothom Alo; Professor Mohammad Kaykobad (Former Professor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology); Professor H. M. Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB); Professor Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of United International University (UIU); Anisul Hoque, author & deputy editor of Prothom Alo and Munir Hasan, Head- Youth Programme of Prothom Alo were also present at the event. The speakers expressed their appreciation for creating an event to honor primary & secondary level school-teachers.
The teachers recognized as ‘Priyo Shikkhok’ this year are: Afrooz Jahan Begum (Mymensingh Agricultural University High School); Shahnaz Kabir (SV Government Girls' High School, Kishoreganj); Faiz Ahamed (Kahariaghona Government Primary School, Cox’s Bazar); Mst. Karima Khanom (Damur Huda Govt. Primary School, Chuadanga); MD. Abdur Rashid (Jhikargacha Govt. M.L. Model High School, Jashore); MD. Zamiul Karim (Pirijpur Maddhomik School, Rajshahi); Rahima Khatun (Auliabad Mazar Dakhil Madrasha, Tangail); MD. Abul Hossain (Cumilla Modern School) and Debi Rani Das (Brahmanbaria Gokarna Pashchim Government Primary School).
This initiative was first organized in 2019 to establish a stronger societal honor of primary and secondary level school-teachers and their contribution to the society. This year’s Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona was inaugurated through a virtual ceremony to celebrate ‘International Teachers Day’ on 5th October, 2020.
Like last year, all Bangladeshi nationals, aged 18 years or above, were able to nominate his/her primary or secondary level school teachers as a ‘Priyo Shikkhok’. The nominated teachers’ age must be at least 40 and can be actively teaching or retired. A nominee could submit up to three nominations.
To raise awareness about the importance of ‘Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona’ Mominul Islam, Managing Director & CEO of IPDC, stated, “In the 50 years of journey after independence, our country has developed a lot. The main force behind this development has been the growth of education. As a nation, we are indebted to our teachers who have contributed highly to the education sector. To continue our excellent journey of development, we must respect and recognize the teachers of the country and their extra-ordinary passion. Teachers are the ones who guide us to build up our life. We hope that through this initiative ‘Priyo Shikkhok Shommanona’, the students will find out their beloved teachers from childhood and stand beside them. We also hope that this initiative will help bring welfare for the honourable teachers.”
