Md. Abdul Karim elected as new Chairman of IPDC


IPDC Finance Limited, the first private sector financial institution of Bangladesh established in 1981, has elected Mr. Md. Abdul Karim as the new Chairman. Prior to joining IPDC, he served twice as the Chairman of Green Delta Insurance Limited and a Senior Adviser of BRAC. Former Principal Secretary to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Abdul Karim also served as the Managing Director of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation.

Earlier, he served as the Secretary to the Government in the Ministries of Commerce, Fisheries and Livestock, Home Affairs, Communications (Bridges Division) and Finance (Internal Resources Division) and former Chairman of Eastern Refinery Limited. He also served as the Economic/Commercial Counsellor of Bangladesh Embassy in Belgium. Mr. Karim was Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation.  He was Chairperson of several national level committees of various ministries.

 

Mr. Karim obtained M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh and Master of Social Science degree in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK. As the Secretary General of the South East Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation, Mr. Karim is working at civil society level to promote trade and investment among five countries of the South and South East Asian region including Bangladesh. He is a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Rotarian where he contributes towards improvement of socio-economic condition of the disadvantaged people.

Mr. Karim is also the President of Bangladesh Deaf Sports Federation, President of Chittagong University Alumni Association, Advisory Committee Member of the Asian University for Women (AUW), Chittagong and President of Bangladesh Chemical Society as well as the immediate past President of Bangladesh Scouts (Boy Scouts and Girl Guides).

A member of the Honorary Advisory Board for developing the Country Programme Document (CPD) of UNDP Bangladesh, he has lectured at various universities and training institutions as a guest speaker. Travelling more than 50 countries, he has also authored books and articles on the local government and other subjects. He has also attended many international conferences and meetings including UN General Assembly, D-8 Summits, COP Summits and many others.
